I used to wonder if my appetite for Punjabi cuisine has reached its saturation having had innumerable trysts with butter chickens, tikkas, dal makhnis et al. But a visit to this quirky restaurant tells there is still room for more ! Located close to HKV gate, this dhaba-inspired place exemplifies uniqueness – from its rustic (read quirky again) decor, interestingly titled – dishes to a life – size tractor completing the “dhaba” look .
Menu is crisp , and they have named the dishes such that visualization becomes inevitable – sample the “Sawaa Futiya Seekh Kebab” ! So we did go for this kebab, which was by far the most succulent and juicy mutton seekh I have had. Most places tend to get this dry howsoever flavorful, but Rang de Basanti UD did complete justice ! Teekhi chutney on the side was crazily good. Then followed “Naancho” with Mutton Keema de Chaamp – which lived up to the unique factor with fried naan cuts to accompany Keema curry and Lamb Chop. While the combination of spices tasted perfect, chop’s texture was a tad too rough, diluting the experience a bit.
Among drinks we tried Rang de Cola ( a cool version of Kala Khatta ), Shikanji and a special Strawberry Mocktail – all scored high on the refresh – meter.
The gentlemen serving us were very courteous, but overall the service should be faster. In terms of prices, this dhaba is surely value – for – money which is a rarity considering the neighborhood ! Head towards UD for some Bindaas Punjabi binging. It is fun !
