Having visited (and loved) Burma Burma in Mumbai three years ago after a chance discovery, my expectations from the newly opened branch in Gurgaon were high. And glad they have been met in good measure ! Mind you (m)eaters, there is no meat here but the vegetables and exotic herbs shall ensure you don’t miss anything viz food satisfaction !
Burma Burma provides a beautiful concoction of South East Asian cuisine, led by new (for us) offerings from Myanmar. The dense evergreen forests of the country have many delectable secrets , which are amply displayed by its exotic, aromatic cuisine.
The setup is quite traditional and homely, complete with temple bells and Burmese cultural paraphernalia.
We were treated with a host of tangy and sweetened sauces – mango, kokum, peanuts which were excellent accompaniments to the dinner.
Khao Suey , the flagship dish was a pleasure to have, with creamy coconut curry and an array of crunchy greens. Tinge of lemongrass were soothing for our taste-buds. Must try here.
Steamed buns (bao) with browned onions, spinach and chillies were a flavorful substitute to the burgers we are used to having. A dash of sesame here was something unique to experiment with.
Burmese Hakka noodles were decent. Felt a tad too sweet though in spite of a generous dose of green chillies.
Impressed, would visit again for tea-tasting which was missed this time. For all folks tired of those regular eating affairs , Burma Burma can be safely added to the wishlist !
